Dr. Wang expressed the health risks of consuming contaminated White Croaker in this segment. He urged target groups to be especially careful in their fish consumption habits. His appearance provided general fish consumption guidelines, the web site address, and displays of the FCEC tri-fold brochure.

Dr. Wang discussed general water pollutants and offered details about local DDT and PCB contaminants. He talked about the contaminants’ history in the Palos Verdes Shelf and mentioned that there are over 110 tons in our local waters. Dr. Wang also addressed bottom feeders in these areas and fish of concern, namely White Croaker.

Host Shen Ming-Li interviewed Dr. Wang and Rebecca Soong of Herald Community Center for a discussion on local water contamination in the Palos Verdes Shelf and safer fish-eating habits. Dr. Wang discussed the legacy of local contamination, the contaminants: DDT and PCB, the fish of concern (White Croaker) and affected areas in Los Angeles. He encouraged listeners to come to the EPA Open House. Rebecca Soong spoke on behalf of FCEC’s Chinese community-based organizations about the health effects of contaminated fish, the target audiences most at-risk and tips for preparing fish. She encouraged listeners to participate in upcoming health clinics and educational workshops to learn more.
